To cover adjusted surface mail fees, a "Rail Mail" stamp series has been issued. As motives, 6 historic railway engines have been selecte, three steam engines, one diesel engine and two electrical ones. Three double sheets with se tenant pairs were issued, combining the CW 0.95 / 1.45, the CW 2.00 / 2.45 and the CW 4.50 / 6.50 stamps. Due to the traditional double sheet format, gutter pairs with two different stamps linked by a bridge field are available at a 10% surcharge.

  • CW 0.95: A "Litra F653" steam engine, located in the terminal building (the former railway station) of Scandlines in Gedser, Denmark. The steam engine was built by A/S Frichs Maskinfabrik, Ã…rhus, Denmark in 1949 and later served on a Danish museum railway line. Photo taken by the Postmaster in June 2024.
  • CW 1.45: The "012 104-06" steam engine of the 01.10 family was built in 1940 and was in use by Deutsche Bundesbahn until 1972. For two decades, the steam engine was located in a museum in England. It returned to Germany in 1998 and has finally been restored and made functional in 2023 by a group of Nuremberg railway friends.   • CW 2.00: The Soviet steam engine "Su 252-94" was built in 1950 at the Andrei Zhdanov Krasnoye Sormovo Factory. First used in other parts of the USSR, it was in use in Estonia since 1976 It is now located in the Railway Museum in the old railway station of Haapsalu, Estonia.   • CW 2.55: The Diesel powered railcar ER1-2303 was built in 1958 in Riga, Latvia, and stationed in Estonia in 1980. It was in use until 2002 and is now also located in the Railwayy Museum of Haapsalu, Estonia. Photo taken in 2011 by the Postmaster.
  • CW 4.50: The Diesel engine V160-002 was built by Krupp in 1960. It is one of ten exemplaries of the pilot production of the V160 series of Diesel engines. These pilot engines were nicknamed "Lollo" because of their round front, referring to Gina Lollobrigida. First used by Deutsche Bundesbahn, it was sold in 1981 to a Spanish rail company. Purchased by a German rail enthusiast in 2010, it was restored until 2015 and is now offered on a rental base for railway purposes. Photo taken in May 2024 by J.Blum.
  • CW 6.50: The Electrical engine "E94-088" , also called "Deutsches Krokodil" to distinguish it from the original Swiss "Krokodil" freight train engine. It was built in 1943 by Krauss-Maffei and operated by the Austrian Railways ÖBB until 1994. It is now owned and operated by "Elektrische Zugförderung Württemberg", a group of electrical railway enthusiasts. Photo taken on 2024.11.24 in Stuttgart Main Station by the Postmaster.
